Modern Mood is one of my all-time favourite brands — and one of the few I actually wear myself. I have multiple pieces in my own ear and a capsule collection piece in my nostril. When a brand ends up on the piercer's own face, that says everything.

Founded by two friends who both graduated from GIA — the Gemological Institute of America, the most respected gemology training in the world. They know stones. As it happens, so do I — I completed my AJP with GIA, so when I say the gem quality here is exceptional, that's not a sales pitch. It's a trained opinion.

They source gems from conventions and private sellers, sometimes buying as few as six of a particular stone and making exactly six pieces with it. Sold is sold. You may be the only person in the world wearing that exact piece.

The permanent collection is generous — huggies, chains, dangly pieces, designs that work beautifully alone or layered. Then there are the limited editions and capsule collections, which appear, sell out, and disappear. Since very recently they also offer a CZ collection for a more accessible price point without compromising the design quality.
